[Debian 13] Failure to build: Syntax errors in "configure"

I'm getting this when I run autogen.sh:

/root/gitRepos/libsmbios/configure: line 18620: syntax error near unexpected token `LIBXML2,'
/root/gitRepos/libsmbios/configure: line 18620: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(LIBXML2, libxml-2.0)'

I don't have enough experience with the configure tool to figure out what's wrong here.

I don't know if you are still trying to find a solution, but in order to solve this you need to edit the configure.ac file, go to line 190 where PKG_CHECK_MODULES([LIBXML2], [libxml-2.0]) is defined and just place a # in front of that line.

Essentially at line 190 you should have : #PKG_CHECK_MODULES([LIBXML2], [libxml-2.0])
