I love the idea behind this new extension but keep getting this error.
I already restarted my code editor (VScode) which doesnt seem to fix the problem

Hi @louiseAB97 , sorry for the delayed answer I just noticed your issue. It's a recent projects so there are still a few rough edges (e.g. error handling could be improved), thanks for the feedback that will help improve it

To be able to do completion suggestion and hover the VSCode extension needs to have a SPARQL endpoint URL (it will auto run queries to retrieve relevant suggestions directly from the endpoint).

That means there are a few things that could lead to an error:

• No endpoint URL provided
• URL provided is not a SPARQL endpoint
• The generated query to retrieve the hover is broken (maybe we can fix this by updating the query template)
• The query timed out (for a hover that would be surprising, because the query for hover is simple, so if the triplestore is there it should work)

Normally you should be able to click on the error notification to see more details about the error message, could you paste it here please?

And could you paste the SPARQL query you are using? (with the target endpoint URL)

You can provide the SPARQL endpoint URL directly in the SPARQL query as comment, e.g., or in the input text box for this purpose in the query results panel

I've run into this message too. I assume, after reading this issue, that not configuring an endpoint caused the query to fail.
The output is:

[Error - 15:29:18] Request textDocument/hover failed.
  Message: Hover is currently only supported for Query operations
  Code: -32001 

In this case I hovered over a term in a DELETE-INSERT query, not a SELECT query. However, for a SELECT query I get a similar error:

[Error - 15:34:41] Request textDocument/hover failed.
  Message: Could not determine backend for hover location
  Code: -32001 

Note the error code and summary are the same for different causes of the failure and in both cases the summary is about a user-interface issue.

I think not having an endpoint either in the query file or the extension's interface, or hovering in an unsupported query type, should cause errors. It would be helpful to distinguish between the different contexts that may cause an issue.
